Are you an up and coming musician? Do you know of any? Does the phrase “starving artist” ring a bell? As a musician, I know the struggles indie groups go through every day until they are noticed. Music trends fluctuate constantly and it’s very difficult to make it as an artist without the proper tools and support. Well look no further: BAMM.TV is here to help.
Rad and I had a chance to meet up with the BAMM.TV team at TechCrunch and they gave us some more information about their product. Essentially, BAMM.TV will act as the musician’s media manager. They will shoot music videos, set up shows and even decide what platform to showcase the artists’ work. Also, BAMM.TV doesn’t stiff the artists with crazy overhead or hidden costs: profits are shared 50/50. The artists’ keep all copyright and composition royalties; BAMM.TV just gives them a global license in which they can protect their work.
BAMM.TV has already started partnering with handset manufacteur Samsung Mobile and mobile carriers outside the United States. Samsung plans to give them a 3 month exclusive on Android and Bada devices. The app runs very smoothly and has a free and paid verison. The paid version will remove ads and allow the user to access all content provided by BAMM.TV. Once the user finds the aritst they are looking for, they can then stream the music video or download it for a price. Artists range in many genres including indie folk, hip hop, and indie alternative. I really hope they get some metal bands in there too.
I was particularly interested in this service because I tried to do something like this a few years ago. Obviously it did not take off. But the idea that BAMM.TV will pay for all expenses for the making of the music videos, shows and only require 50% back seems like a business model that most musicians would appreciate. We should hope to see this as a mobile app sometime next year but in the meantime, go check out their website!
