The Morpheus Bomber is a new pedal similar to the classic Digitech Whammy pedal. The Bomber features foot controllable bending of notes and chords, either up or down in pitch, creating a bend effect similar to that of a pitch bend or Bigsby.
The Bomber is made of a good metal housing. It feels rugged and looks like it can take a bit of a pounding. The right side is the pedal that will control the bending. The up position will allow 100% of the dry signal to pass through while the full down position is 100% wet signal. The left side of the pedal has two buttons, select and effect buttons. Both buttons are of good quality, similar to that found on MXR pedals. The top left is where the bending amount can be selected. Within that area, there is also a level meter just above the “Bomber” name showing how hot the guitar is coming in. The rear of the unit has a 1/4″ input and output, micro USB, place for the external power supply and a input trim.
Pressing the select button cycles through the bending options one by one. The options include 2nd up and down, octave up and down, two octaves and dive bomb. The effect button that engages and disengages the effect is the upper of the two buttons where the select button is the one closer to the front. This is the opposite of what is expected as most pedal manufactures put the engage button where it can be easily access. This shouldn’t be too much of a concern as the pedal can stay engaged in the foot controller in the upmost position and the sound passes though unaffected.
The sound of the Bomber is great. The bending effects sound authentic even to the highest settings. Even when moving the pedal up and down slowly, the bending sound was smooth and even. Leaving the pedal in the full on position will present some small artifacting on the 2 octaves settings. The sound does come out a bit more digital when in full on position and set to an extreme setting. Considering the pedal is to be used for bending notes, not transposing a guitar two octaves, the sound differences is negligible.
There is no noticeable latency when in full on mode either, the pedal tracking even the fastest playing without any delays or latency. The pedal also has rubber on it to prevent a foot from sliding off while in use. There is no rubber on the bottom but it is a smooth surface so assembly in a pedal board is easy.
The bomber is a great pedal for those who want to bend notes or whole chords without putting your guitar out of tune. The pedal works as advertised allowing the bending of notes for any guitar plugged. The setup is easy and the sound is right where it needs to be.
